During this time of the year, many families begin thinking about what the future holds for a young person in terms of a potential career and higher education. This is especially true for soon-to-be graduates or those with only a few more years of high school left. 4-H is ready to help young people as they explore and decide on their first steps into adulthood.
Throughout their time in 4-H, youth learn about and develop skills that will help them as they transition into adulthood. These life skills include concepts like responsibility, teamwork, communication and critical thinking, which are important characteristics for a successful person to possess no matter their career field.
Kentucky 4-H offers additional resources for career exploration through its Workforce Preparedness and Career Readiness Program. The program provides general information, activities and assessment tools to help a young person get a better idea of a potential career and the pathway to achieve it. The program gets 4-H’ers thinking about job requirements, their current skill set and any additional education and skills they will need obtain to enter a particular career field. It also includes valuable information about how to construct a resume, write a cover letter and tips for interviewing.
