Throughout their 4-H career, young people can develop leadership skills and put them into practice. One unique leadership opportunity that Kentucky 4-H provides for its teen members is a chance to serve as a member on a statewide teen leadership boards.
4-H offers state teen boards in fashion, performing arts, shooting sports and science, engineering and technology. 4-H members, who are currently in eighth through 11th grades, can apply for a position on any of these boards for 2020-2021 year through May 1.
Teens who serve on these boards are selected for their leadership, passion and proficiency in their particular area. During their yearlong term, they serve as ambassadors for their particular board and will engage in various statewide leadership opportunities including planning and teaching workshops for younger 4-H members, advising 4-H specialists on statewide programs and promoting their discipline at 4-H events.
A position on these boards can also serve as a springboard for other 4-H leadership opportunities including state teen council or a state officer position.
Each state teen board has its own application criteria and selection process. More information about a particular board is available online at http://4-h.ca.uky.edu/state_teen_boards or through the (COUNTY NAME) office of the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service.
